Alwasi Ibn Rida

Alwasi Ibn Rida, was born May 26, 1981, in Orange, NJ to Sharifa Munir Rida and the
late Muhammad Salaam Rida. When Wasi was 3 years old he moved to Greensboro, North
Carolina, the place where he grew up and called home. He was educated in the Guilford
County school system and graduated from Southern Guilford High School in 1999.
Alwasi loved his family, friends, travelling and the Dallas Cowboys. He also, enjoyed
attending family functions, music, watching TV, and going to the movies with his sons
whenever possible.
Anyone that knew Alwasi recognized he had an entrepreneurial spirit, and excellent
customer service skills. He created a business plan for transporting customers and food to
customers before Uber, and door dash. Alwasi always had big ideas and plans! He was the
founder and creator of the Black Card Concierge Connection.
Alwasi moved to Badin, NC in 2019 where he created a life for himself and joined the
Spirit and Truth United Church of Worship and was a member of the men’s ministry,
which he stated changed his life. In 2022, Wasi got the job he always wanted with
American Airlines, and then moved to Raleigh, NC and took on a second job at the Hilton
Garden Inn. These 2 jobs afforded him the opportunity to do what he loved – traveling at
will.
On June 19, 2023, at the age of 42 God called Alwasi home and allowed him to enter
paradise. Alwasi passed away surrounded by his family at Moses Cone Hospital.
Alwasi leaves to cherish his memory, 2 sons: Abraham Wright and Mekhi Brannock. His
loving mother Sharifa Rida and siblings: Antwoinette “Toni” Byrd, Al-Mumtahanah S.
Jackson (Akbar I. Muhammad), Sean Smack, Sayyied Rida, Khairah Rida, Al-Qayyim
Rida, step siblings: Joi Roach, Eric Harrington, Anthony Wooten, Tia Wooten, and Bruce
Wooten. An aunt: Venus Watkins, cousins: Detrica Watkins, Justin Battle, Jordan Davis,
and Ari Battle. Uncles: Garmel Turner and Gonzie Turner Jr, and a host of other family
and friends.
Alwasi is preceded in life by his Grandmother Dimmie Ann Watkins (who meant the
world to him) his father Muhammad Salaam Rida, his sister Yamin S. Eagle, his aunt
Darryl Watkins and his Grandfather Gonzie Turner, Sr.
He has left a void in our hearts, and he and his smile will truly be missed.
