Obituary

Andrew Tyler Alston, affectionately known as Drew, brought a ray of sunshine and love into the lives of those who knew him. Born on October 1, 1998, Drew’s vibrant spirit touched the hearts of many until his passing on June 29, 2023, at the age of 24.

Drew’s greatest joy in life was his family, whom he loved with all his heart. Every year, he eagerly anticipated the family beach trip, cherishing the moments spent by the ocean, and creating memories together. He had a special bond with his two dear friends, Cameron and Landon, who shared his enthusiasm for fashion and always looked impeccably stylish alongside him. He also will be dearly missed by his two best friends, Keenan & CP.

Basketball served as more than just a game to Drew; it was his passion. Spending countless hours on the court, he relished the opportunity to play ball with his friends, showcasing his skills and fostering strong bonds through the sport.

Drew’s adoring smile and infectious laughter were contagious. His presence could light up any room, and his uplifting spirit brought happiness to all those around him. An animal lover at heart, he had a special compassion for creatures great and small, especially his cat Gohan.

Survived by his his mother, Colleen Kovack; and father and stepmother, Timothy and Sonia Alston of the home. Drew leaves behind a treasured legacy. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his grandparents, William Alston, and Dorothy Mahatha, as well as his siblings, Alex, Sara, Tiffany, and Chris. He is also survived by his step-siblings, Vanessa and Leia.

Drew was surrounded by a loving extended family, including his aunts Nori Alston, Kelly Brown, Gail, Ms. Brown, and Gabrielle, and his uncles Eric Alston, Horace Brown, Tony, Rodney, Johnny, Randy, Larry, and Brandon. Additionally, his cousins Kilan, Kyle, Kalob, Noah, Nate, Jackie, Lorri, Lord Tariq, Rameses, Jihad, Carter Man, and Kayli held a special place in his heart. He was an adored uncle to Lucas, Nicholas, Aranza, XyLiana, Kayli, Naomi, Rockford, and Kayla.

Drew was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Kovack; great-grandparents,  Thomas Alston, Vallie Alston Andrew Brown, Francis Brown; and uncles, Robert, Jr., Frank Carey, Christopher, and Ronald Kovack.

A memorial service to celebrate Drew’s life will be held on July 10, 2023, at 6:00 PM in the Triad Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 2110 Servomation Road, Greensboro, NC 27407. Pastor

Johnny Oceguera will officiate the service, with a time for friends and family to gather and offer their condolences beginning at 5:00 PM.

In Andrew Tyler Alston’s too-short but impactful life, he brought joy, love, and laughter to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His larger-than-life smile and contagious laugh will forever remain etched in our hearts, reminding us to cherish every moment and spread happiness wherever we go. May his soul find eternal peace.

As your birthday approaches it becomes more and more real and the tears are still flowing months later. I'm going to miss you more than you'll ever know little bro! I'm at least greatful we got to speak a lot before you left us and I know you're at peace and watching over us all until it's our time. Love you to death and I'm glad I got to tell you this and have the last few conversations we had. Stayed on the phone for hours. Deep down I know I'll see you again and feel you with me. As hard as it is to accept that your gone, I know you're not completely gone, you just beat me home. See you when. I get there. I don't have to say more you know what I'm thinking. Love you more than words can express lil man! Til my day comes✌️1❤️
