Obituary

Daughter of Ernest Holton and Helen Mitchell, Beverly was born on April 26, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York. She attended Brooklyn Public Schools and Ossining Senior High School. Beverly attended the Secretarial School of Manhattan and later received her NC realtor’s license.

Beverly’s professional endeavors included working with MONY Insurance Company of New York and in North Carolina, Guilford County Courthouse, Bank of America, United Guaranty, Vanderbilt Mortgage, and Wendover Funding. After retirement, she became a transportation monitor for children with special needs for the Guilford County School System.

Beverly, a New York Giants fan, was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, and crocheting. Her pride and joy were her canine friends, Chico, Claire and Cassius, and was only surpassed by her love for Shelton, Blake, and Shelton Jr. Known for her unwavering strength and witty personality, stylish dress and pristine appearance she possessed a passion for all genres of music. However, she particularly loved the soulful renditions of Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin. After an awesome family vacation, Beverly was so impressed with the southern hospitality that on January 1st, 1982 she decided to relocate to North Carolina joining family and new friends. Her passionate belief was that this move would provide greater opportunities for Adriane and Jamal.

Beverly leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories with her daughter, Adriane P. Lewis of Greensboro, NC; son Jamal Lewis of Columbia, SC; grandson, Shelton A. Mckoy of Greensboro, NC; Great-grandsons Blake A. McKoy of St. Port Lucie, FL and Shelton A. Mckoy Jr. of Greensboro, NC; siblings Michael Lewis of Queens, NY; Barry and John Martin (Tanya) of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Linda Holton of New Rochelle, NY and Vanessa Wesley, of Winston-Salem, NC; along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins near and far; and special friend Philip Lindsay. Preceding her in death were brothers Stanley Lewis, Stephen Lewis, and Ernest Holton. The extended family includes the Holloways.

Celebration of Life Service will be held in Brooklyn, NY.

To the family and friends of Beverly Lewis always cherish the fond memories of time spent together and although you may grieve the Bible can be a source of comfort. At (Revelation 21:3,4) it speaks of a time when there will be no more sickness or death, also at (Acts 24:15) it speaks of a resurrection that we all can look forward to. May the peace and love of the God of all comfort be with you all. Comfort can be found in our Creator through prayer and through his word the Bible and in our Savior Jesus Christ.
