Obituary

Bruce Herman Waizenhofer, 94, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away June 26th in Greensboro, NC. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was a lifelong Steeler fan but also felt some loyalty later to the Miami Dolphins because his career was as an educator in Miami, Florida. After graduating from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania he served as a weatherman in the Air Force during the Korean War. He loved basketball and became a basketball coach at the high school in East Brady, PA. Moving to Miami, Florida in 1958, he helped open a new middle school, Riviera, as a math and PE teacher. As the years progressed, he became a counselor, district supervisor of counseling, and then assistant principal at several middle schools in Miami-Dade County. After retiring in 1983 he was able to pursue his love of golf in Bayonet Point, Florida, and then to Columbia, SC to be near his grandchildren Will, Ellie, and Megan. A year and a half ago he came to Greensboro, NC to enjoy his daughter’s grandchildren, Bruce and Robbie. He is survived by Ninette, his wife of 60 years, his son Robert, daughter-in-law Kathryn, daughter Robyn Ankney, son-in-law Patrick Ankney, grandchildren Will, Ellie, Megan, Bruce, and Robbie, and multiple nieces and nephews each of whom he declared his favorite. A life well served, well spent, and well-loved.

There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon for Bruce at the Hacienda Hotel, 5621 Main St., New Port Richey, FL on Saturday, August 12 th, 2023 starting at 1:00 pm. This venue provided the reception for their wedding in August of 1962. Life is sometimes spent in a circle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
