Obituary

Cardell Shelton went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 17, 2023 at the age of 78 with his loving wife by his side.

Cardell lived 43 years as a quadriplegic as the result of a car accident in 1979. He loved to work and was in construction, carpentry, sheetrock, and heating and air. Cardell loved to fish in his free time and enjoyed watching all sports, especially football, baseball, and NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed assembling 3-D puzzles, word searches, and more than anything he loved reading his bible daily. He read it through several times each year.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years and caregiver, Doris Shelton, three brothers, William Shelton, Wayne Shelton and his wife Betty, and Gary Shelton, two sisters, June Lee Perkins and Pauline Flores, several nieces and nephews, and special cousin Linda Steck.

Cardell is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Nannie Shelton, a brother, Bud Shelton, and two sisters, Marie Smith and Mary Ann Paschal.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Cardell’s home health nurse Heather and a special family friend, Gloria Vaughan.

A celebration of Cardell’s life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to Triad Cremation & Funeral Service, 2110 Servomation Road, Greensboro, North Carolina 27407.

I remember as a little my uncle Cardell giving me the funniest, fastest ride on the back of his wheelchair. Cardell always had jokes. He always made me laugh. I remember seeing all the puzzles he and his wife Dot would put together. It was always fun hearing him tell my siblings and I stories of my mom and him were younger/ growing up. I absolutely loved his picture books. My favorite picture of uncle Cardell was the one where he looks like Elvis Presley. RIP uncle Cardell. Love you!
