Obituary

GREENSBORO – Dorothy Ann Bartley, 96, was born February 19, 1918 in Pilot Mountain, NC to the late Joby and Lizzy Smith. Dorothy departed this earthly life on Friday, August 15, 2014 at Moses Cone Hospital.

Dorothy met and married the late Rufus S. Bartley, Sr. in Pilot Mountain.  This union was blessed with five wonderful children. She later moved her family to Pleasant Garden, NC where she was a devoted wife and mother.

Dorothy shared a passion of preserving and canning her fruits and vegetables that she grew.  Dorothy is preceded in death by two sons, Rufus S. Bartley, Jr. and Charles L. Bartley; one granddaughter, Crystal A. Bartley; her one sister and six brothers.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her loving memories: two daughters, Diane Bartley Young (Jesse) of Pleasant Garden and Sue Bartley of Greensboro; one son, Richard G. Bartley (Gwen) of Greensboro; eight grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, ten great great-grandchildren. Dorothy was blessed to see three generations. For those that knew Dorothy knew it didn’t take much to make her happy.

She loved a nice cold slice of watermelon and allowing the warm sun to shine on her face; while sitting on the porch watching the cars travel down the road. Dorothy was a pleasure to be around and will be truly missed by her family and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Gayle McCorkle-Havens and Frank Havens says:
To Dianne Hackett and her sweet family:  Our sincere condolences and prayers are extended to you all.  What a blessing Miss Dorthy was in so many lives.  Dianne you were a wonderful daughter to take care of her all these years.  Take comfort in knowing she is with The Almighty God in Heaven and you will be reunited with her some sweet day. "There's a place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and whispers softly echo. It's a place where a part of you will forever be a part of me."   Our Deepest Sympathy, Gayle & Frank Havesn
