Obituary

Our beloved Mom, Elease Tate Reeder, 88, a mighty prayer warrior and woman of God transitioned on Friday, August 4th.  Her family and friends will miss her unconditional love, her all-encompassing faith in God, and her very special prayers.  She gave the best advice, always telling us to trust God!

From Gaffney, SC, she was a faithful member of Word of Reconciliation Church. Her Lord, her family and her church were of the greatest importance to her. She also loved being outdoors and gardening. Her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews had the task of helping her find Poke Salad in early Spring.  Elease had a quick wit and unexpected sense of humor. She was described as, “the cutest 6 foot tall woman you could ever meet” because of her sweet nature.

A single Mom, she worked many jobs to care for her five children including: Maryfield Nursing Home and various private cleaning and childcare services.  She was a woman among women, showing uniquely strong love and encouragement to so many family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her oldest daughter Delores Seymour, along with her husband Rayford and children Rayvon and Sterling; by siblings Willie Tate, Ida Morgan, Leroy Tate, Juanita Martin and Evelyn Shippy; by two spouses Willie John Rhyne and Odell Reeder; and by nephew Joe Tate.

She is survived by children Bryant Tate (Nancy), Sandra Patton (Keith), Danny Rhyne (Marie) and Eunice Breeze (Kirby).  Her grandchildren Rontrell (Celeste), A. Nicole (Chandra), Brandon, Curtis, Lauren, Jasmine, Bryant Jr. and Bryson will miss her terribly.  She was always thrilled to see her great-grandchildren Tyanna Aubree, Sophia Ruth and Aaliyah Elease.

She is also survived by her dear sisters Mittie Barr and Ruth Tate and her many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own: Willie Earl (Joan), Doug (Linda), Marie Janelle (Ronnie), Henrietta (Tommy), Sylvia, Karen (Claude), Lenette (Dudley), Darwin, Kim, Scot, Petra and Tyra.

She will be missed by a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors and by her recent caregivers Mary Craven and Vanessa Rhyne.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Foster Grove Baptist Church, 707 W. Main St D, Jamestown, NC 27282.

San, I am so sorry to hear about your mother's passing. I hope that the memories you shared will bring a smile later, now just cry when you need to and know you are not alone. Praying for you and the rest of your family.

Pastors William & Vanessa Buckson says:
To the Reeder Family: Your Mom, Grandmother, Auntie, Gem was a woman of strength and character. I remember her being a part of Word of Reconciliation Ministries. Mother Reeder was a pillar of faith and prayer who was like the Titus 2 woman taught us great things by the life she lived. And we are forever grateful for the positive example she modeled as well as the service she rendered. Family know you are in our thoughts, prayers and support. We are deeply sadden by her transition. We trust God for Mother Reeder's love and memories being forever in our hearts guiding and comforting us all throughout the coming days. Pastors William & Vanessa Buckson

    Debra Taylor says:
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore , my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Words don’t do justice to how I feel for you right now, as you bear the burden of the passing of your sister. If there is any way I can share this burden with you to help you through this. I’m available to do so. •
