Obituary

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ~Psalms 27: 1 ~

George Weldon Gilmore was born on May 2, 1928 to the late Oakley and Anna Gilmore in Milton, NC. He attended Person County Training School. In 1954 he decided to move to Greensboro, NC where he made his home with his love, Queen Royster Gilmore, who precedes him in death.

George was employed with T&A Trucking and McRay Trucking until he found his passion and became a Self-Employed Taxi Driver for Daniel Keck Taxi. He drove for 45 years until he retired in 2007. The #28 Cab Driver was very well known, loved and respected due to his devotion to his customers who became friends, and some even family. He was so loved the Greensboro News & Record did an interview on him and put his story in their newspaper.

George was an active member of Saint James Baptist Church for over 40 years where he sang on the Male Chorus and a part of the Parking Committee. He resided at Anointed Acres, where he was Chaplain and crowned King for the past two years.

In his leisure, he enjoyed singing, dancing, going to church and spending time with his family. George loved watching wrestling, and in his younger years he loved to take his grandchildren to wrestling events.

He leaves to cherish his memories, five children: Arlinda (Larry) of Greensboro, NC; Mary (Wayne) of Greensboro, NC; Cedric (Delores) of San Antonio, TX; Reginald (Darise) of Greensboro, NC; Garry (Bernice) of Ellenwood, GA; two sisters, Katie Lee Leathers and Corrine Bynum, of Durham, NC; twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, a special friend, Ms. Emma McCray, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. One son, one sister, and five brothers precede him in death: Wayne Gilmore, Ruth Jeffries, Raymond, John, Claude, Frank and James Gilmore.

I would like to thank personally all of whom sent their condolences out to my family, as well as those whom are not familiar with this unique technology.  My dad was indeed a great man and will be missed so very much as he is even more today than ever.  Thank you to all of the staff of Triad Cremation Society.  You all treated us all as you do everyone you come in contact with, with such high respect and regard.  I can't express enough how much of a magnificent work of art you performed on my dad.
