Henry Smalls, age 82, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023, in Guilford County, North Carolina. He was born on September 1, 1940, in Bamberg County, South Carolina. Henry was a self-employed entrepreneur who dedicated himself to various ventures throughout his life.
Henry’s interests were diverse, reflecting his vibrant personality. He was an avid traveler, always seeking new experiences. Above all, he cherished his role as a devoted family man. Henry was known for being dependable, reliable, and wise beyond his years. He had a knack for solving problems and was highly respected by those who knew him.
Henry served his country with great honor as a member of the Vietnam Veteran community. He also graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School, where he gained knowledge and skills that would shape his successful future.
Henry was preceded in death by his father, William Smalls, his mother, Helen Robinson, his beloved spouse of 28 years, Frances Smalls, his siblings Dorothy, Julias, James, and Williemae, as well as his son Lawrence Smalls.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving children: Henry Smalls Jr. of Hawaii, David Smalls of Philadelphia, Terry Smalls of North Carolina, Donald Smalls of North Carolina, Vernessa (Vincent) Freeman of Mississippi, and Daniel (Cynthia William) Smalls of Alabama. He is also survived by his sister, Wilhemina Johnson, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 11am at Peace on The Water Ministry, located at 1200 East Chelton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19138. This service will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and loved ones to come together, celebrate Henry’s life, and bid him a fond farewell.
Henry Smalls will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and wisdom that will continue to inspire and guide those who follow in his footsteps. May he rest in eternal peace.
