Jane Moore Adair, 90, of Twin Lakes, Burlington, NC, died on March 29 at Coble Healthcare at Twin Lakes. A celebration of her life will be held in the Twin Lakes Chapel, 3801 Wade Coble Drive (Burlington, NC 27215) on a date and time to be determined. The Reverend Dr. Steve Pressley of First Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC, will officiate. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service.

Jane was born April 1, 1923, in Camden, SC, to the late Lewis Lee Moore and Eva Johnson Moore. At the age of 6 her family moved to Lexington, NC, where she grew up and graduated from Lexington High School. In 1940 Jane moved with her family to Greensboro where she entered Greensboro College. She graduated with honors and a degree in art in 1944. After graduation she was a flight attendant for American Airlines during World War II, residing in New York City. She married Howard B. Adair in 1946. After her husband’s retirement she returned to the work force and enjoyed many successful years as a real estate broker.

Jane was a member of First Baptist Church in Greensboro for 64 years and was a long time member of the Love Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Greensboro Lecture League, Potpourri Study Club, Greensboro College Board of Visitors, and the Greensboro Symphony Guild. After moving to Burlington she was a volunteer in the Cancer Center at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Jane and Howard made many close friends before and during their marriage. After Howard’s death she moved to Burlington and developed new relationships within the Twin Lakes Community. She had a wonderful gift of maintaining and nurturing those friendships throughout her lifetime. Among Jane’s many fine attributes were her exceptional kindness, generosity, and unselfishness toward her family, her friends, and those who benefitted from her volunteer work and her charity.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years and by her sister, Dorothy Reu Tilley. She is survived by her sister Eva Thomas, her sons Steve and Scott, her daughter-in-law Marcia Adair (Steve), her granddaughters Erin Jo Adair (Grant Hamm) and Emily Jane Shanken (Justin), and her great-grandchildren Josephine and Cohen Shanken.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC, 27215, or to First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC, 27401, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
