Obituary

Janie Romans Willis, 70, of Bassett, Virginia, left her earthly home on May 28, 2023 in Martinsville, Virginia.  She was born to the late Charles Maiden and Dorothy Berry Romans, in Smyth County, Virginia on July 01, 1952.  Janie was a nurse for over 45 years, serving in various departments in hospitals caring for her patients.  Janie retired from nursing after working in home health care where she grew very close to her patients and their families.  She enjoyed her time in homecare because she was able to know her patients on a more personal level and found herself becoming part of their families.

She was married to her loving and devoted husband, Elby Leon Willis, in 1976.  They built a life together in Henry County, where they raised their three children and were active in their community until Leon was called to his heavenly home on May 01, 2018.

Janie is survived by her two sons, Mathew Willis and his wife Alexis, of Indian Land, South Carolina and Daniel Willis, of College Park, Maryland; two grandsons, James and Henry Willis, of Indian Land, South Carolina; two granddaughters, Cora Barker and Peyleigh Willis, both of Martinsville, Virginia, and two sisters, Brenda R. Akers and her husband Donnie and Sharron R. Brown, both of Pulaski, Virginia.

In addition to her husband Leon and her parents, Janie is preceded in death by her daughter, Amanda Renee Wallace.

A time of remembrance and celebration of Janie’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 5-7 pm at 799 Hamilton Road, Bassett, VA.

Triad Cremation & Funeral Service, 2110 Servomation Road, Greensboro, North Carolina 27407 is honorably serving the Willis family.

Janie was my friend since I was 3 years old. We went through many times together and I loved her like a sister. We watched our children grow up together and mourned the loss of our husbands together. I will miss her so dearly.
