Obituary

Dr. Jerry David Stubblefield passed away in peaceful sleep on August 7th, 2023.  Jerry was a well-known and beloved veterinarian in Greensboro for many years and at the time of his death lived at Baden Lake, New London, NC.

He was born on August 23, 1941 in Rome, GA to David Hasting Stubblefield and Nellie Stansell Stubblefield. His sisters were Joanne Stubblefield Carr (Jack, deceased) and Judy Stubblefield Gordon.

Jerry was known for his athletic abilities, and graduated from Darlington School in 1959, playing basketball and baseball there.  He went on to play both sports at Shorter College until transferring to the University of Georgia, where he graduated with a BS, followed by his DVM in 1968.

He and his family, his wife the former Alison Bryson of Rome, and their three children, David Stubblefied, Julie S. Rhodes (Danny), and John Stubblefield moved to Greensboro NC.  While in NC they had their fourth child, Jodi E. Franck (Robb). Jerry practiced Veterinary medicine until his retirement, chiefly at Four Seasons Animal Hospital which he built, later at Sheets Pet Clinic after retirement.

Jerry remained a sportsman even when he couldn’t play.  Golf, tennis, and his last love, bass fishing were more than mere hobbies.  He was looking forward to fishing with his club in October, and fellow members were some of his best friends.

Surviving him in addition to his children are two former wives, Alison Langley and Sherri Minor, grandchildren Taylor Rhodes, Ryann Franck, Jaiden Franck, Devon Franck and Rowan Franck.  Two great grandchildren, Braxton Rhodes and Adalynne Rhodes and his special added family Justin Hines and Kamryn Hines also survive.

His third wife, Jeannine Hines Stubblefield predeceased him, as did a beloved grandson, Walker Rhodes.  Recently he suffered another loss in the death of Russell Gray, friend and fishing buddy for many years. These three deaths were very hard on him. He dearly loved his family and friends and we thank you for your loyalty.

A celebration of Life will be held Friday August 18th at 2:00pm at Triad Cremation and Funeral Service.  We invite you to bring your stories and your laughter with you.  There will be a brief reception after the service. Casual dress welcome.

In lieu of flowers, foster or rescue a dog or cat, or donate food or money to an animal rescue organization in his memory and those of your fur family. Special to Jerry were both Animal Rescue and Foster Program (ARFP) as well as Sheets Pet Clinic. Donations in his memory would be welcome.

    Stephanie Stubblefield says:
Jerry, You will be sorely missed! I will miss your sense of humor and laid back ways. You made a lasting impression on my life and I will never forget the friendship and guidance you offered me over the years. You were loved by many and appreciated by everyone who met you. I remember all the trips to Stanley’s, late cigarette smoking nights and fun times with you & Jeannine. I remember this one time in Williamsburg when we all went to see the fireworks and it was freezing cold. You and Jeannie brought your own chairs and set up shop on the side of the lane just waiting for the show. Wrapped up tightly in blankets you waited patiently until they began. Several seconds later it became clear that we weren’t going to be able to see anything because of all the smoke from the fireworks. 🤣Still such a great memory since amongst the smoke regretting our cold decision. I look forward to the day that we reconnect at the pearly gates. I know you will keep a close eye on all your kids from heaven and send them lots of your love! Have a fantastic time with Jeannine and all those animals the crossed over prior to you! Thank you for all you have done to support me over the years with life and my girls! Forever grateful, Stephanie

    Dinah Flippin says:
Dr. Stubblefield was a wonderful, caring man. As a young, poor college student, he was kind enough to treat my sick kitty and let me make payments. His kindness left a lasting impression. This world was definitely a better place because he was in it, and I am sorry for your loss.
