Kevin “Skip” Gilyard was born to Betty Jean Gilyard McNeil on July 18, 1960, in
Greensboro NC. Skip spent his earlier years with his grandparents the late Abram
and Geneva Gilyard and attended Shiloh Baptist Church where he learned to love
the Lord. He also spent time with Elizabeth and Henry Moses during his early
Skip was a charming and kind man who loved life, family, and friends. He enjoyed
spending time with family and friends at cookouts, family gatherings and special
events. He had a love for music, watching sports, watching shoot’em ups or just
hanging out shooting the breeze. He was always known for his witty sayings and
jokes. His love for music extended from Tupac and Rakim to listening to Wild Irish
Rose on 90.1. He loved watching sports and would always support his home team
the Carolina Panthers.
A dedicated friend and family member, if anyone he knew passed, he would
always attend the funeral to show his respect.
Skip graduated from Page High School in 1978. After high school he served in the
United States Army as an E-4 Specialist, 4 th Infantry Division where he spent time
domestically and internationally.
Skip is preceded in death by his mother Betty Jean McNeil.
Skip leaves to cherish his memories, daughter Devin Gilyard, siblings,
Wink Gilyard (Kim), Anthony Gilyard, Alfred Gilyard (Angel), Yvonne Gilyard,
Lamonte Gilyard, Alice McIver, Cheryl McIver, Maxine McIver, loving and
supporting Aunt Mildred Cherry, nieces, nephews, and cousins, Aunt Isabelle
Gaskins, and a special friend Edwina Harris.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for each,
and every act of kindness shown during this time.
