CHAPEL HILL – Larry Ellis Carroll,70, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014.  The family will have a memorial service at a later date.  Cremation services entrusted to Triad Cremation Society & Chapel

    I am sorry and saddened to read of Larry's death.  We knew Larry from downtown Chapel Hill businesses we patronized while at UNC and later as young adults.  Larry was one of the special residents who was known by so many students, and loved for his uniqueness in the community.  I can't name but a couple of handfuls of folks who shared that status other than the business owners themselves.   I hope his soul rests in peace, and the memory of him recalls the best of who he was.  My condolences to his family.

    My loving regards to Brenda and the Carroll family on Larry's passing. I lived on Oak Avenue down the street from the Carroll family house during the 1970s and 1980s. I remember well Larry's dry humor and artistic talent. I recall the time Larry ran for mayor of Carrboro. He tired very quickly of the noise and publicity of politics!

    I just recently learned that Larry died in 2014 - sad news indeed. He was a friend during my years in Chapel Hill in the 1960s - and I will always think of him as working closely with Kemp Battle Nye - another Chapel Hill legend of genuine importance. Larry was a serious artist - and I will miss him.
