Laurene Elizabeth Mills

April 29, 1930 ~ June 30, 2014 (age 84)

Obituary

Evangelist Laurene Elizabeth Wise Mills, the youngest of four daughters of the late Elizabeth (Lizzie) K. Wise and Henry E. Wise, was born in East Spencer, NC on April 29, 1930.  She made her transition from this life on Monday, June 30, 2014 at the age of eighty four.

She spent most of her formative years in Reidsville, NC attending the local public schools and graduating from Booker T. Washington High School.  She pursued further education at Rockingham Community College.  She was always interested in learning something new and even received a certificate in auto mechanics.  She completed studies in divinity.

While nurtured in the Christian faith at an early age she became a member of Zion Baptist Church. She later joined Mt. Herman Pentecostal Holiness Church.  After moving to Greensboro, NC she affiliated with Faith Tabernacle and remained a member there until her transition. She served in many capacities at the church.  Some of her service included Associate Pastor, church Secretary/Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher. After many years of devoted service, she was named Mother of the Church. She was a faithful servant who prayed fervently for her children to join her on the Christian journey.

She was married to Charles S. Mills who preceded her in death. She was the mother of three daughters and six sons.  She was proud of all her children and didn’t hesitate to boast about any of their accomplishments. One of her favorite sayings was “I love my children and I know that they love me.”

Though her physical presence will no longer be with us, we are yet comforted that her spiritual presence will remain with us and will be our comfort, strength and support.

She was predeceased by her parents, three sisters and youngest daughter, Janice Lorene Mills.  Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Minister Janie Charlene Penn of Greensboro and Joylette Elizabeth Catherine Mills-Ransome of Plainfield, NJ; six sons, Frederick Henry Mills (Corliss) of Durham, Charles Stephen Mills Jr. (Bonnie) of Somerset, NJ, Kelvin Roderick Mills (Stephanie) of Fayetteville, Vernon Leon Mills (Gina) and Bentley Gerard Mills of Reidsville, and Timothy Lamar Mills of Greensboro; thirty eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren; her lone   surviving first cousin, Irene Highsmith;  other relatives and friends.

I am so sorry for your loss of someone you love. The resurrection hope @ John 5:28, 29 has been comforting to me. This scripture assures us that we will see our loved ones again and we will have everlasting life ahead of us in a paradise new world according to Psalms 37: 10, 11 & 29. www.jw.org gives exciting details on this subject as well as any other subject addressed in the Bible. Remembering you and your family in my prayers.
