Obituary

Luther “Albert” Purcell (known to family and friends as “Albert”) passed away on May 27 in Greensboro, NC following a severe heart attack and battle for his life at Duke Medical Center.  He was 65 years old.  A long-time resident of Bassett, VA. Albert is survived by his sister, Joyce Hull.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews included amongst them is Dina Mathews (Bettendorf, IA), Cassandra Sickels (Wilton, IA), Andrea Szabo (Asheville, NC), Joshua Hull (Lincoln, NE), and Nathan Purcell (Murphy, NC).

Albert was preceded in death by his mother (Delores Purcell), father (Wendell Purcell, Sr.), brother (Wendell Purcell, Jr.), and a niece, Laura Purcell.

Albert came into this world with a bang!  Albert left this world with a bang!  As a prematurely born child, Albert learned early how to deal with adversity and overcome obstacles.  He was a mischievous kid and a very inquisitive brother to his sister Joyce!  He was essentially a twin brother to his older brother, Wendell, Jr.  They did everything together with a special time when they dominated the motocross circuit in Oklahoma and surrounding states as teenagers.  Albert was a talented carpenter who skillfully built many homes and businesses that will enhance many communities nationwide for years to come.

Albert graduated from Stillwater High School in Stillwater, OK, and was a lifelong and avid knowledge-seeker.  He even surprised the doctors in his last week of life with his in-depth understanding of his medical condition!  Albert chose to finish life the same way he came into this world, with a defiance of the inevitable and a bold and courageous battle until the end!

Rest in Peace Albert!

A memorial service/celebration of Life will be arranged at a later date.
