Jasper Leroy Baker, loving husband and cherished father, passed away on July 17, 2023, at the age of 81. He was born in Chesterfield, South Carolina on January 29, 1942, to Mr. Roy and Gladys Hillian Baker.
Jasper’s career spanned several decades, and he held positions at the Greensboro Housing Authority. Later on, he retired from the Greensboro News & Records, leaving a lasting impact on the community he served.
When not working, Jasper had a variety of interests that brought him joy. He enjoyed watching Western movies, finding solace in those quiet moments, especially when he would go on rides when it rained. Saturday mornings were dedicated to visiting flea markets and yard sales, where he eagerly searched for hidden treasures. Above all, his love for his grandchildren was immeasurable.
Jasper’s education played a significant role in shaping his life. He graduated from Alexander-Hamilton Vocational High School in the City of New York, an accomplishment he carried with pride.
Jasper is reunited in eternal rest with his parents, Mr. Roy and Gladys Hillian Baker, as well as his sisters Beulah “Jackie” Baker Evans and Ada Bell Baker, and infant brother Roy Baker Jr. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories among his beloved family and friends.
Surviving Jasper is his devoted wife of 34 years, Patricia Baker. He is also survived by his two daughters, Ruth (Fred) Henderson of Greensboro, Sonja (Charles) Owens of Virginia, and son Alan (Susan) Collier of Morrisville, NC. Nine grandchildren Jevonn Collier of Greensboro, NC, Erick Craft Callender, Brittney Craft of Georgia, Sanayia Henderson of Greensboro, NC, Alan B. Collier Jr., Georgia Ann Collier of Morrisville, NC, Ashley Baron of Chesapeake, VA, Phillip Owens, Adam Owens of Suffolk, VA, and nine great-grandchildren hold dear the memories of their beloved grandfather. Additionally, he is survived by his sister Elois Baker Wells of Haw River, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services to celebrate Jasper’s life will be held on Monday, July 24th, 2023. A visitation is scheduled from 2 pm to 2:30 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:30 pm.
Jasper Leroy Baker will forever be remembered for his kind heart, dedication to family, and the love he shared with those around him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
