GREEENSBORO – Norris J. Thompson was born on September 29, 1955, to Carnelle and Lizzie Thompson in Union, South Carolina.
Norris received his formal education in Union County Public Schools in Union South Carolina. He furthered his education at University of South Carolina at Union and later at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, NC.
Norris accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young adult and was united with St. Paul Baptist Church in Union, SC, and later joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro, NC. As a member of Mt. Zion, he was a Deacon, sang on the male chorus, was a part of the Nursing Home Ministry, he was on the transportation ministry and assisted with food service.
Norris was united in holy matrimony with the love of his life Alma Boyd on September 3, 1976, in Greensboro, NC. Their union was blessed with twin girls.
He was employed by Morflex Chemicals as a Maintenance Mechanic for 33 years. Along with spending time with family and friends, his passions were hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking. He loved to feed people! Norris Thompson departed this life on September 18, 2014, and transitioned into heaven. He leaves to cherish his memory his sweetheart and wife of 38 years, Alma Boyd Thompson; his loving daughters Juliet Thompson of Raleigh ,NC, and Jennifer Thompson of Greensboro, NC.; one granddaughter “the apple of his eye” Jayla Thompson of Greensboro, NC; his mother, Lizzie Thompson of Union, SC; one brother Bobby Thompson of High Point, NC, 2 sisters Judy Thompson and Abigail Thompson, both of Decatur, GA; his mother-in-law, Lena Ray of Greensboro, NC; a brother-in-law Christopher Boyd of Greensboro, NC; 4 nieces, Wendy Gowdy (Jerrawi) of Charlotte, NC; Sherry Thompson of Somerset, NJ, Sonya Crank (Charles) of Spartanburg, SC, Denise Suber of Decatur, GA, and a nephew Cedeno Thompson (Shawntel) of Lithonia, GA; great-nephews, and wonderful cousins. In addition to blood relatives, he leaves behind two brothers of love Otha “Doc” Collins (Clarencia) of Greensboro, NC and Jack McCollum (Karen) of High Point, NC. He also leaves to cherish his memory Davida Edwards of Greensboro, NC, whom he loved like a daughter. He was preceded in death by his father Carnelle Thompson, Sr. and his brother Carnelle Thompson, Jr.
A public visitation will be held 12:00PM – 6:00PM, Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Triad Cremation Society. A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Gospel Baptist Church, 5945 N. Church Street, Greensboro, NC, 27455, with a visitation from 1:00PM – 2:00PM. Interment at Guilford Memorial Park. Professional services entrusted to Triad Cremation Society & Chapel.
