Obituary
Rachel Louise Teague Charles of Friends Homes West,
Greensboro, NC, died peacefully on Wednesday,
December 11, 2013, following a short illness. She was
the daughter of the late Noah Jacob Teague and Tempie
Stewart Teague of Forsyth County, North Carolina.
She was an accomplished homemaker, excellent cook,
skilled seamstress and needle worker, a woman who loved
children, Christmas, and all things Southern. She was
also known for her quick wit and excellent bridge playing
skills, and she loved family beach trips. A thoughtful
daughter, mother, sister, gram, aunt and friend,her caring
ways brought comfort and joy to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Howard C. Charles, Jr., and
by her siblings Ethel, Bessie, Lottie, Roselle, Newburn, and Delafean. She is
survived by two daughters, Rachel Diana Charles Phillips (Barry) of Hillsborough
NC, and Janie Charles McKnight (Russell) of York PA. She also leaves behind three
grandsons, Jesse (Lisa) of Annapolis MD, Benjamin (Debra) of Medford MA, and David
(Sarah) of Elizabethtown PA and five great grandsons as well as goddaughter, Lisa
Deck of Oak Hill VA.
Rachel was a member of First Baptist Church of Greensboro for over 60 years. A
family graveside service is planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rachel and Howard Charles
Scholarship Fund, Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, NC 28754; Hospice and Palliative
