Ransom Baggs, Jr.

June 4, 1956 ~ April 18, 2014 (age 57)

Obituary

We pause today to mourn the passing of our beloved brother, Ransom Baggs, Jr., who died on Friday, April 18, 2014 after a courageous battle at the Select Hospital in the Moses Cone Complex in Greensboro, NC.

Ransom , or “Butch”, as he was affectionately known by most, was born in St. Johns Hospital, in Elmhurst, L.I., NY on June 4, 1956 to Inez and Ransom, Sr. He was welcomed into a close-knit family. He spent his early years in Queens, NY, attending Richmond Hill High School and Queens College.

Ransom was preceded in death by his parents, Inez & Ransom, Sr., and his younger brother, Kevin.

After the death of his Mother, Butch remained in Queens for a while with his Father, who eventually moved back to his home in Georgia, where Butch spent a little time before moving to Halifax, VA with Wendy & Wes and finally to Greensboro in 2004. He really enjoyed the easy accessibility to the city and could be seen walking all over town, making friends along the way.

At an early age, Butch displayed an enthusiasm for learning and became an avid reader. While he battled an extended illness for most of his adult life, Butch exhibited a strong ability to overcome many, many life challenges and yet remained a gentle and quiet man.

He leaves to mourn two adoring sisters: Viola Green of Hartsville, SC and Wendy Westfall (Frederick) of Greensboro, NC, and ‘Aunt’ Doris of Hampton, VA. Also grieving are his niece, Chanla Kelly (Ralph); nephews, Corey Davidson of Middleton, DE, Chetleigh Davidson of Brooklyn, NY and Cameron Williams of Tampa, FL; a large extended family in Ludowici, GA, a special friend of many years, Mrs. Minnie Dash of Brooklyn, NY as well as a host of additional family and friends who will sorely miss him.
