Robert Gerber

December 21, 1940 ~ July 11, 2014 (age 73)

Robert “Bob” Gerber, 73, of Greensboro, North Carolina originally of Syracuse, NY passed away on Friday, July 10 at Beacon Place Hospice Care in Greensboro. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Barbara Chestnutt-Gerber. Bob is also survived by brother Don Gerber, sons Scott, Justin and Joel Gerber, daughter Katie Glenn, son-in-law Freddie Glenn, daughter-in-laws Jennifer Maguire Gerber, Jennifer Gerber, Amanda Gerber and four grandchildren.

Bob, among other things, was always a loving and caring man who put his family first, second and third. Our successes were his success and our failures were always met with unending and positive encouragement. A calm hand, a smile and a measured approach were always his greatest tools. He could make our darkest days seem bright with a joke or a smile. He would never force his clear wisdom on anyone, but through a conversation it was easy to discover. Though he always opened with a joke, Bob’s deep-seeded warmth and intelligence was always present in every action he performed.

‘Gift of gab’ doesn’t even begin to describe Bob Gerber. All of his friends loved to have him around because of his happy-go-lucky attitude and strangers quickly became friends thanks to his natural way of making people feel at ease. Bob would always go out of his way to make everyone else feel comfortable, and frequently joked that he should have been a Wal-Mart greeter.

Bob was a furniture sales rep for over 45 years and sold several lines across the state of North Carolina. He was a life-long blood donor, veteran of the U.S. Army, philanthropist to several causes and a proud member of the YMCA where, of course, everyone knew his name and smiled when he came up to tell them one of his stories.

A memorial service for Robert “Bob” Gerber will be held on Sunday, July 13 at 2 PM at Guilford College United Methodist Church.  Visitation with family and friends will be held immediately after the service at the church. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the American Red Cross. Cremation Services entrusted to Triad Cremation Society & Chapel.
