Obituary

Roland Hayes Jones, Jr. was born on March 1, 1958 to Roland H. Jones, Sr. and Mathie C. Holmes in Manhattan, New York.

Roland received his formal education from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Roland was a man of God.

Roland H. Jones, Jr. was united in holy matrimony with Kristie S. Richmond on July 7, 1996 in Greensboro, North Carolina. This union was blessed with two precious children.

He was employed by Hutton Vineyards/ RH1 Drinks as a Brand Ambassador/ Entrepreneur for over 10 years in the wine and spirits and over 25 years in the entertainment industry.

In his leisure, he enjoyed traveling to Jairus and Roland’s basketball games. Frequent visits to Georgia to spend time with Kima and his grandchildren; and he followed Nadia to support her color guard aspirations. After the kids were taken care of, he was involved with music, fashions and building up his business with RH1 Drinks for his latest passion in the wine and spirits arena. Roland was the architect for the creation of the Greensboro Cavaliers, whom have dedicated the entire basketball season in his honor.

While fulfilling all these tasks he was steadily politicking, counseling, uplifting and supporting everyone around him. Roland was never at a lost for words. He could out talk everyone and always had a comeback reply.

Roland Hayes Jones, Jr. departed this life ever so sweetly on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, Roland H. Jones, Sr. and one brother, Julius Jones.

Left to cherish his wonderful memories are: two daughters, Shamika Jaudon (Kima) of Conyers, GA and Nadia Jones of Greensboro, NC; two sons, Jairus Simms and Roland Jones, III (RoRo) of Greensboro, NC; three grandchildren, Trevione Moses, Essence Mingo and Serenity Simms; mother, Mathie C. Holmes; stepmother, Lillie Jones; five sisters, Freda Atkins, Fenda Jones, Robin Jones, Kimberly Brock and Deborah Jones; one brother, Larry Jones of New York and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Please know that Roland's family is in my prayers. I am one of Roland's neighbors at MacGregor Place, and I have nothing but fond memories of him. He was one of those people who could light up even the most trivial interaction with his kindness and positivity. My sincerest condolences for your loss; he will be missed.
