Obituary

Susan Morrison DeLong, 78, died on May 11, 2023, in Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro, NC, after a brief illness. She was born in Bristol, VA on February 6, 1945, the daughter of the late Arthur Floyd Morrison and Jane Elzey Morrison Tayloe.
Susan graduated from Bristol Tennessee High School in 1963 and the University of Tennessee in 1967 where she later received her master’s degree in crafts.
She became a textile designer for Joan Fabrics, Fall River, MA, and later head of design for Phillips Mills, High Point, NC. In addition, she worked for American Silk and other notable textile companies. Her unique color sensibility and mastery of pattern and technique earned her a reputation for sophistication and flair among furniture markets.
As an avocation, Susan became a skilled designer of hand-beaded jewelry. She attended workshops and extensively traveled, always seeking out major exhibits which fed her curiosity about all textile arts as well as indigenous crafts.
Susan was a communicant of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, High Point, NC.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Abigail Claire Rogillio, High Point, NC; her sister, Barbara “Bambi” Morrison Berry (Robert), Rome, GA; brother, James Fletcher Morrison II, Knoxville, TN; step-sister Ellen Tayloe Parkerson (Hal), Marietta, GA; step-brother David Tayloe (Elizabeth), Abingdon, VA; step-mother, and Sharon Greer Morrison, Bristol, VA.
Surviving nieces and nephews include:
Lowry Berry Harrington, Nashville, TN; Natalie Berry Murphy (Ryan), Rome, GA; James Fletcher Morrison III (Jennifer), Knoxville, TN; Jessica Morrison Johnson (Burton), Jackson, WY; Brittany Parkerson Johnson (Zack) and Katie Parkerson, Atlanta, GA; Nathaniel Tayloe and Ryan Tayloe, Abingdon, VA.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Floyd Morrison, Jane Elzey Morrison Tayloe, step-father James Marion Tayloe, and her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Finneran, Greensboro, NC.
A memorial service will be held for both Susan Morrison DeLong and her daughter Elizabeth Ann Finneran at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 108 Farris Ave, High Point, NC, at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 10, 2023, with a visitation reception to follow.
