Obituary

Thomas Douglas Jones, born May 17, 1938, peacefully passed away on June 11, 2023, at the age of 85 in Guilford County, North Carolina.

Thomas graduated from Pleasant Garden High School in 1956. After graduating, he was a dedicated employee of Bellsouth for 43 years and was known for his exceptional work ethic. Outside of work, he had many interests such as fishing, flying planes, farming, and woodworking. His skillful hands crafted beautiful wooden canes and birdhouses, which were admired by many. 

Thomas grew up in the Nazarene Church and was a long-time member of The Rolling Roads Church of the Nazarene. Later in life, he and his wife Anita joined Pleasant Garden Baptist Church where they found great comfort in their faith.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Gilmer and Rosa Jones, his wife of 59 years, Anita Smith Jones, his sister Barbara Brown, and brother-in-law Don Brown.

He is survived by his son Clifton Thomas Jones (Patty), daughter Alisa Jones Church (Dwayne), brother Donald Jones (Ruthann), grandchildren Steven Jones (Kayla), Marie Mourning (Kenneth), Garrett Church, Nicholas Jones, and Avery Church. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 15th, 2023, at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church, located at 1415 Neelley Road in Pleasant Garden, NC, with a visitation prior to the service beginning at 1 pm. Thomas will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A special thanks to Clapp's Nursing Home for their compassionate care of Mr. Jones during his final days.

    I have known Doug all my life from church and when my husband, Mike, and I married he got to know Doug through church and working together at Bell South. We have admired all the Jones family for so many years. May God bless you all, children, grandchildren, Donald and Ruthann and nieces and nephews. We love you all.
