February 6, 1938 ~ March 11, 2014 (age 76)

Obituary

On February 6, 1938, Ula Vermile Paige was born to Lottie Mae Watson and Shellie Chandler in Alamance County, NC.  As a teenager, she adventurously left North Carolina to seek opportunity in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  While in Philadelphia, she met United States Army Sergeant Eulie Aiken, Jr.  Their relationship quickly blossomed and the two were united in marriage on March 29, 1961.

Throughout her life, Ula served as an example of strength, wisdom and humility for her family and community.  Never one to allow life's circumstances to hinder her goals, Ula returned to complete her higher education at Rockingham Community College in 1985.  In 1988, she was conferred a degree in Business Administration.  Ula also received her license in Real Estate and served as a North Carolina Notary Public for many years.

She was most recently employed as a Business Consultant with the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation.  She received many awards and accolades for her outstanding performance over the years.  She retired from D&B after providing over ten years of dedicated service.

In retirement, Ula enjoyed relaxing through reading and meditation.  Her keen interest in exploring the past inspired her to spend countless hours studying history and family genealogy.  She would also enjoy time spent playing and talking with her grandchildren, encouraging them to be successful in all their endeavors.  Ula’s greatest achievement and ultimate passion encompassed the constant delivery of her life-long lessons of love, faith, and unwavering trust in the Lord; which shall be ingrained in our hearts forever.

Ula returned to Our Lord at on March 11, 2014 at Select Hospital in Greensboro, NC.  She was preceded in death by Franklin Parks (brother), James Aiken (son) and Clovenia Jones (sister).  She leaves behind to cherish her memory,  Eulie Aiken, Jr. (husband), five children (Eula Aiken-Johnson and husband, Allen; Virginia Aiken; Christopher Aiken and wife, Tracy; David Aiken and wife, Marcquisha; Tyrone Aiken and wife, Janika), three grandchildren (Cam'ron Aqil Aiken, Josiah Amir Aiken & Jayla Michelle Aiken), four siblings (Francis Miles, Arlington Parks, Cheryl Long & Edward Parks) and a host of step-children, nieces and nephews and friends.  She was recently joined in God’s arms by mother, Lottie Mae Watson on March 20, 2014.

We shall forever cherish our memories of our mother, daughter, sister and friend, Ula Vermile Paige-Aiken.  May she rest well in the arms of our Lord.

A memorial service will be held 1:00PM, Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Triad Cremation Society & Chapel.

To the Paige & Aiken family (my extended Cand Creek Family) Words can't express how I feel, but your mother will be deeply missed.  I'll miss our talks and her words of encouragement.  It's now time for me to reciprocate...May the hand of God comfort you during this time. I pray that this strengthens your bond as a family because she would want you guys to remain close even without her physical presence.  Her smile will reflect back at you as you continue to spend time together and embrace those grandchildren of hers.  She thought the world of her family and she was proud of each of you so please remember that.  Eula, Virginia (my sister), Chris, David and Tyrone from my family to yours; We love you and will continue to pray for you.

The former things have passed away."       (Revelation 21:4)

    Janika Dickens-Aiken says:
Mama Aiken, I truly miss you. I miss your laughter, your jokes, they way you would just tell it like it is...I miss all of that. You were truly a remarkable woman and I'm so honored I had the blessing of having you in my life. I promise to take care of your "yo-yo" as you like to call him, and although you didn't get a chance to see Jayla, I know you will still be watching her from Heaven. I love you, rest peacefully mama.
