Obituary

Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come
—Proverbs 31:25 KJV

On May 26th, 2023, Valerie French, a mother, grandmother, and friend to all, took her last earthly breath as she entered the gates of heaven, adorned with her new spiritual body and clothed in righteousness.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, at 11 am. Rev. Tony Sluss will be officiating her service at Friendly Baptist Church located at 420 New Street, High Point, NC 27260.

Valerie was born on April 17th, 1955, to the late Verna Mae Spires and Ralph Zilinek. She is preceded in death by her wonderful husband David French, son David “Wayne” French, her 4 brothers, Daniel, Stephen, Anthony, Victor, and her loving Aunt Pearl.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Jones (Greg), Tammy Brandon, Amanda Brewster, and Holly Overby (Bradley). Her grandchildren, Chris Jones, Logan Jones, Rachel French, Braxton French, Aksel French, Cody Brandon, Christina Brandon, Timothy Brandon, Miquella Williams, Madison Williams (Andrew), Trey Thompson, Kathryn Hendrix, as well as her great-grandson Carson Keller.

Throughout her life, Valerie only knew one thing, how to lend a hand. From lending a hand to her country as a Marine to lending a hand in her church as a well-loved member, always stepping in to lend a hand to a friend in need, but most of all lending a hand and encouraging her family to be strong, be diligent, and walk with a purpose.

From being a church mom, a band mom, an ROTC mom, a lunch lady, and a bus driver, Valerie also got to lend her hand in the lives of many and be a blessing to all that met her.

In her final days, as we feared what was happening, Valerie showed no fear, as she reminded us daily, where she was going, that she was going to soon get a brand new body soon with no good side or bad side but both working sides, meet her Savior Jesus Christ, and be reunited with all of her loved ones she so deeply missed.

A special thank you to all that aided our Mama in her final days, to her many friends that stopped in to let her know they cared, and supported her, and to Linda Sluss, her dearest friend and second Mama to her kids, Thank You for being there to not only hold Mama’s hand and support her through all the steps she had taken, but for the countless prayers you led with her, words of encouragement, and unconditional support you gave to her and her kids, our Mama,  your Friend knew she was loved and we knew she loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting in her honor, donations be made to Friendly Baptist Church, or to go to your local school and donate money to overdue lunch accounts.
