Vines B. Reed

July 12, 1961 ~ February 19, 2015 (age 53)

Obituary

Vines B. Reed was born in Washington D.C. on July 12, 1961 to the late Wilma V. (Davis) Reed and the late Henry L. Reed, Jr. She was welcomed by her loving older siblings, Debora, Donald, and Benjamin (Benji), and later herself became big sister to Gina, who would become her constant companion.

Raised in Bridgeport, CT, Vines graduated from Warren G. Harding High School. She attended the University of Connecticut before leaving for the armed services (Marines). She later moved to Massachusetts where she worked for Digital Equipment Corporation, and later for Digital Credit Union. In 2002 Vines moved to Raleigh, NC where she worked for Fidelity Investments as a Benefits Specialist beginning in 2003. Her main focus in life, however, was that of being a zealous servant of Jehovah as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Vines was baptized in symbol of her dedication to Jehovah on September 9, 1989. She truly enjoyed sharing in the public ministry helping people learn about God's Kingdom and the Bible's promise of everlasting life on a paradise earth. She spent several years as a full time pioneer minister. Her faith in Jehovah's promises was a source of great comfort and strength to her, and she freely shared these promises with others.

Vines was a beautiful person, inside and out. She had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh. She loved life and loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She quietly observed their growth, offered guidance and counsel at times, and marveled at the fine young men and women they had grown to become. She cared deeply for her older family members. She often sent them thoughtful notes and letters to let them know they were in her thoughts, and to encourage them with the Bible's hope of better things to come.

A dear friend to many, Vines was ever thoughtful and attentive. Always ready with an encouraging word, card, or text, she put the concerns of others ahead of her own. If you were ever the recipient of one of these kindnesses, please know it was an indication of how much she truly valued your friendship. Dear to her heart were the many friends she made over the years in the Maynard (MA); Fox Rd, Neuse River, Wakefield and West Kernersville (NC) congregations.

As family and friends we cherish the things that made Vines so special to us. Her close family fondly calls them "Vines-isms" – the way she "yelled" your name because she was happy to see you, the way she laughed so hard she sometimes couldn't catch her breath, and the way she would dance and sing, to mention just a few.

More importantly, Jehovah saw something special in Vines and drew her to Him. She remained faithful and devoted to upholding His sovereignty to the very end. She now rests safely in Jehovah's memory awaiting the time when He, through his son Christ Jesus, calls her to life again when he makes all things new. It was her strong desire that everyone she loved and cared about be there to welcome her in the resurrection when she opens her eyes again in perfect health and peaceful conditions in God's new world.

Vines was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Vinson and Benjamin Vinson.

Left to celebrate her life and memory are her sisters, Debora Shakoor and Gina Williams (Benjamin); step-sister Barbara Green (Renard); nephews Marcus Todd (Jennifer), Kaheil Shakoor, Sean Scott, and Evan Rabb; niece Maleda Vinson; great nieces Yesenia Todd and Kylie Todd; great nephews Qeven Todd and Akeil Shakoor; sister-in-law Lisa Vinson, aunts Bernell Winfield (Walter), Christine Bussey, Arlene Jamison, Adele Murph (Joe), and Carrie Reed; uncles Charles Davis (Jean) and Walter Edwards; as well as numerous other family members and friends too numerous to mention.

A memorial service will be held 2:30PM, Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, at 6320 Fox Road, Raleigh, NC 27616.

    Fran McKenzie says:
My condolences to you all on Vines' passing.  She always made me smile at work, offering a cheerful and encouraging word when times were rough.  Her easy smile and quick wit would often make my day.  Her faith in the Lord, ever strong, showed daily in her countenance.  Although she never knew, her faith encouraged my own.  Thank you Vines.  Thank you for being the wonderful person I knew you to be; may you find blessed and eternal rest in the arms of the Lord.

You popped into my head today Vines, as you sometimes do. And when you appear, I always say a prayer. We didn't know one another very well, but you made a lasting impression on me. May God grant you eternal rest dear one. You deserve the best.
