Obituary

William Henry “Bill” Evans, July 12, 1927 – August 8, 2023. Bill Evans, beloved husband, father and grandfather went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2023 at the age of 96. Bill’s time with family and friends was filled with love, dedication and treasured memories. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Ruth “Jo” Evans, son Huey, parents and sisters. Bill is survived by daughter Janet Evans and son Donald and wife Lori, granddaughter Lauren Friedrichs and husband Nick Friedrichs, granddaughter Hunter Evans, and great grandson Nash Friedrichs.

Bill served in the United States Army for two years. Bill retired from Southern Life Insurance, enjoyed traveling and visited every state with his wife Jo. They spent their winters in Vero Beach, Florida for 26 years.

Bill’s love and devotion to his family was evident in every aspect of his life. In 2015, Bill moved into a retirement home and continued to be loving, outgoing and made many friends. The staff stated on many occasions how much they cared for him, and what a blessing he was to be around.

Throughout his life, Bill was a faithful church member teaching Sunday School and singing in the church choir. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang multiple solo’s. He sang for many years the “Messiah” with the Greensboro Oratorio Society.

A memorial service will be held at Friends Homes Guilford, 925 New Garden Road, Greensboro NC on Sunday, August 27th at 3pm in the Woolman Building, second floor living room. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends Homes or AuthoraCare Hospice in Greensboro, NC.
